Papal blessing for London Olympics
CWN - July 23, 2012
Pope Benedict XVI described the Olympic Games as “the greatest sporting event in the world,” and offered a prayer that the 30th Olympic Games, opening this week in London, will be “a true experience of brotherhood among the peoples of the earth.”
At the conclusion of his Sunday Angelus audience on July 22, the Pontiff gave his blessing to the games, and said that he hoped they would generate international goodwill “in the spirit of the Olympic truce.”
