Abortions continue at Spanish Catholic hospital, pro-life protesters charge

June 29, 2012

Despite more than a year of regular protests by pro-life activists, a Catholic hospital in Barcelona continues to schedule abortions, the LifeSite News agency reports.

Last year Cardinal Lluis Martinez Sistach said that media reports of abortions being performed at the Holy Cross and St. Paul Hospital were inaccurate. But Father Custodio Ballester, who has led monthly public protests at the institution, insists that hospital “continues to carry out abortions, according to various witnesses and the health-care workers themselves.”

Father Ballester argues that the Barcelona archdiocese has sought to cover up the problem rather than address it, saying that there is “an agreement with the administration of the hospital to deny the problem and not a coercive order to not do abortions.”
