Pope denounces Luxembourg's new euthanasia law

CWN - December 19, 2008

In a message to Paul Ruhr, the new ambassador from Luxembourg to the Holy See, Pope Benedict XVI called upon lawmakers to reverse their decision to allow legal euthanasia, saying that ''a deliberate decision to deprive innocent humans of their lives is always evil from a moral point of view and can never be lawful." The euthanasia law has already won legislative approval, but legislators have not yet approved final amendments. Earlier this month Grand Duke Henri, who objected to the law, agreed to surrender his veto power in order to avoid a constitutional crisis.
