Pakistan: Christians beaten for showing movie on Jesus
CWN - August 16, 2011
In Abbottabad--the eastern Pakistani city where Osama bin Laden was killed in May--members of a Protestant church were beaten for showing a movie on Jesus in a city park.
In addition, angry Muslims smashed the film projector.
Criticizing the “stupidity” of members of the Full Gospel Assembly Church, retired Archbishop Lawrence Saldanha said that “the whole [Christian] community has to bear the brunt of their indiscretion. They needed to be mindful of the delicate situation.”
Police also interrogated Father Akram Javed Gill, the local parish priest, after he took a friend to the rooftop of bin Laden’s compound.
“I learned a lot from that experience,” said Father Gill. “Christians cannot afford to get involved in risky situations, especially after the bin Laden episode.”
