Vicar general of Legionaries steps down
CWN - July 15, 2011
The vicar general of the Legion of Christ is leaving that post to take a new assignment as head of the order in the US.
The departure of Father Luis Garza--who only recently told the Catholic News Agency that he did not plan to step down--comes as the Legionaries struggle to recover from the fallout from the revelation that their founder, the late Father Marcial Maciel, lived a double life.
Father Garza, who joined the Legionaries in 1978, had been vicar general since 1992. Thus he was second-in-command to Father Maciel until the founder's replacement in 2005.
