Minnesota Catholic college president calls for more supportive attitude toward gays, transgendered persons
September 25, 2013
An Associated Press wire story has drawn wider attention to recent remarks about homosexuality by the new president of a Minnesota Catholic college.
“Increased diversity among our students, faculty, and staff enriches the learning experience we provide,” said Julie Sullivan, president of the University of St. Thomas. “I use the term diversity in its broadest sense: race/ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, geographic (both domestic and international), religious, and socioeconomic.”
“The planning and climate surveys reflected concern about a welcoming and supportive attitude to lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender persons in our community,” she added. “It pains me to think that a gay student, staff or faculty member would ever feel unwelcome or a need to ‘hide’ at St. Thomas. As Pope Francis reminds us, we are not called to judge. We are called to love and support everyone in our community regardless of their sexual orientation. And, I might add, regardless of the gender of their spouse.”

But why would any self-proclaimed "gay" person seek either an education or a position at a "Catholic" college at all? This is NOT begging for food or water, or seeking basic acceptance in the broader social context, but rather, this is seeking to better oneself at a CATHOLIC college. Any person applying for higher education must know that Catholic doctrine forbides such behavior. This deliberate choice is manifestly provocative and manipulative on the part of homosexuals.

Miz Sullivan needs to read the Church's teaching on marriage before she misleads her students on the Church's teaching on marriage and Pope Francis' comments about same sex marriage. Perhaps her bishop could have a talk with her. However, her comments on discrimination correctly echo the Holy Father's comments which I support.

"As Pope Francis reminds us..." and, "...regardless of the gender of their spouse." This from the President of a Minnisota Catholic College! If this is not simply a boldface attempt to deceive the reader, this college president better go back to English 101. However, this example does show how the left wing will use the words of the Pope to "deceive even the elect." The confusion of the 1960's "spirit of Vatican II" is alive and well and coming back to cause trouble again.

Here we go with the Pope's remarks taken out of context. The Pope never said we needed a "supportive" attitude of homosexuality, transgender or bisexual disorders. Supportive has the aspect of acceptance associated with it. As Catholics we cannot accept the lifestyle associated with these obvious disorders. Yes, we are not called to judge the person but if we fail to judge the behavior then we may be complicit with it.
