Catholic Recipe: Spanish Eggnog

  • 4 eggs, separated
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 quarts milk
  • 1 bottle cream sherry (oloroso type)
  • grated nutmeg

Eggnog is a delicious New Year's refreshment. This Spanish version uses sherry.

DIRECTIONS

Beat egg yolks until thick and lemon-colored. Beat in 1/4 cup sugar slowly. Continue beating until sugar is dissolved. Add milk and sherry; chill. Beat egg whites until stiff; beat in remaining sugar. Spoon into punch bowl. Pour sherry mixture into punch bowl; sprinkle with nutmeg. Makes about 24 punch cup servings.
