Washington: Democrats threaten government shutdown over Planned Parenthood funding

CWN - April 08, 2011

As legislators in Washington, DC, negotiated on a last-minute compromise that could avoid a temporary shutdown of the federal government, Democratic leaders said on Thursday morning that they could not accept a deal that would eliminate taxpayer funding for Planned Parenthood.

Republican and Democratic negotiators had nearly reached agreement by April 8 on a resolution that would allow continued operation of government agencies. But the two sides remained at odds on two issues: spending cuts that would amount to about 00.01% of total federal outlays, and funding for Planned Parenthood.

Regardless of the percentages involved, PP and NPR take up over 200 million dollars in federal spending. Cut it out. The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

I pray that our pro-life elected officials will remain strong in this fight. It is hard to believe the Democrats want to shut down the government over their misguided support for an organization like Planned Parenthood. I pray for the intercession of Our Lady to open their hearts to life.
