Vatican expert sees little risk in Arab-world uprisings

A Vatican expert on Islam, Father Samir Khalil Samir, sees the current surge of protests in the Arab world as a largely healthy development. The crowds are not motivated by Islamic fundamentalism or antipathy toward Israel, he insists; they are young people looking for greater freedom and economic opportunity.

We shall see. I find it interesting that the Bush Neocons who were wanting to bring democracy to the countries of the middle east aren't so happy with it now, and the liberals who hated Bush's ideas are now loving democracy in action in these countries.
