Islamic group torches Christian village in Philippines

February 11, 2011

A Christian village in the province of Mindanao has been torched, apparently by a small Islamic rebel group. Although there were no reported casualties, dozens of families were routed from their homes.

The arson attack was attributed by local officials to an Islamic splinter group that had broken off from the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF). MILF, which has been fighting for autonomy in Mindanao, has recently entered into negotiations with the government.
