'Study text' prepares priests for new English translation of Mass

February 07, 2011

The Vatican has released a “study text” for the new English translation of the Roman Missal, including sections of the translation that will be introduced later this year.

The Vox Clara Committee, created by the Holy See to supervise the production of English translations, produced the study text as a means of helping priests to prepare for the change to the new translation, which will be introduced in the US on the first Sunday of Advent.

The study text was approved by the Vox Clara Committee at a meeting in Rome last week. During the meeting the committee, chaired by Cardinal George Pell of Sydney, Australia, also elected new officers. Bishop Thomas Olmstead of Phoenix, Arizona, was chosen as 1st vice-chairman, with Cardinal Oswald Gracias of Bombay as secretary and Bishop Arthur Serratelli of Paterson, New Jersey as treasurer.
