Texas: former priest charged with seeking to arrange murder of abuse accuser

January 26, 2011

In Texas, a former Catholic priest will be in court this week to face charges that he tried to hire someone to kill a boy who had accused him of sexual abuse.

John Fiala has been behind bars since his arrest last November on murder-for-hire charges. Last week the San Antonio archdiocese reached a settlement of nearly 1 million in a lawsuit brought by his accuser. Fiala denies all wrongdoing.

Horrifying. It's good to know that this man is a "former" priest. I imagine that one of the few things worse than being the victim of a sexually predatory priest is to learn that he is also your would-be murderer.
