Abortion on the rise in the US

The US abortion rate rose 1% between 2005 and 2008, according to a new report published by the Guttmacher Institute, the research organization that was originally an arm of Planned Parenthood.
The number of abortions soared from 744,600 in 1973 to 1,608,600 in 1990, then declined to 1,206,200 in 2005. Between 2005 and 2008, the number rose to 1,212,400.
