Church leaders must admit errors on abuse, says retired Belgian cardinal
CWN - December 21, 2010
Cardinal Godfried Danneels, the retired Archbishop of Brussels, told a Belgian legislative committee that the Church must “look its dark side in the eyes” and candidly admit errors in handling the sex-abuse scandal.
Cardinal Danneels—who was the focus of an aggressive search by police investigators earlier this year—said that prelates too often protected priests at the expense of their victims. The retired cardinal admitted in September that he himself had urged an abuse victim to remain quiet about his experiences.
