Protests of 'gay Mass' motivated by prejudice, says British archbishop

CWN - December 20, 2010

Archbishop Bernard Longley of Birmingham, England, has criticized Catholics who have protested the scheduling of special Masses in London for homosexuals.

Archbishop Longley was instrumental in arranging for the “Soho Masses” while he served as an auxiliary in the Westminter archdiocese, before being promoted to his current post in Birmingham. Speaking to The Tablet, he said that Catholics protesting the Soho Masses were probably making judgments about the conduct of those who attended them. One protester replied that the participants in the special liturgies are openly about their support for homosexuality: “No one, apart from the archbishop, tries to pretend they are living, or striving to live, chaste lives.”
