Nuncio urges US bishops to evangelize
CWN - November 16, 2010
Archbishop Pietro Sambi, apostolic nuncio to the United States, urged the bishops assembled at the fall meeting of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops to evangelize.
“Evangelization is the deepest identity of the Church, and the urgency of the present time,” he said, recalling statements on evangelization by Pope Paul VI, Venerable John Paul II, and Pope Benedict XVI.
“The pastoral ambition, the only ambition which is praiseworthy, is the following,” Archbishop Sambi concluded: “for parents and teachers to transmit to the new generation, by word and example, the solid spiritual and human values which they received; and for bishops, parish priests, and religious superiors to leave their dioceses, parishes, and religious communities strong in faith, hope, and love then when they received it.”
