Television cameras roll as Hindu mob beats Catholic brother

Catholic World News - October 26, 2010

A Holy Cross brother was assaulted and severely beaten by a mob of Hindu activists in a suburb of Bangalore, while television cameras recorded the assault. Police only reluctantly took note of the incident; one local police official participated in the attack.

Brother Philip Noronha was hospitalized after being attacked by a crowd that had been waiting for him at Holy Cross School. The mob—many of them wearing the saffron scarf indicative of Hindu-nationalist sympathies—accused the brother of harassing female students. Colleagues insist that Brother Philip is innocent of the charges.
