DC archdiocese to open new seminary

October 21, 2010

The Archdiocese of Washington has announced that it will open a new seminary for college seminarians and seminarians engaged in pre-theology studies.

“At a time when the teachings of the Catholic faith seem countercultural, we are seeing an increased interest in the priesthood, particularly among younger men who want to be a part of a new evangelization in society,” said Archbishop Donald Wuerl. “Until now, most of our new seminarians, especially those in college, have had to leave the area for their studies. Now, the men will begin their formation here and be an integral part of the local Catholic community from the beginning,”

The archdiocese has 67 seminarians, up from 44 a decade ago.

This is wonderful news; thank you Abp Wuerl! Further proof he's doing a good job in DC, despite Fr Ruggere's uncalled for and inappropriate comment about Wuerl becoming a cardinal.
