Caritas appeal for Benin
CWN - October 18, 2010
Caritas Internationalis, the consortium of Catholic charitable and development agencies, has issued an appeal for flood-ravaged Benin.
“We haven’t really seen anything like this before,” says Philippe Ahouanye, emergency director for Caritas Benin. “It started raining in July, it rained all through August, and it is still raining. However, it now looks as though it’s finally stopping. Let’s hope that it is.”
27% of the western African nation’s 8.0 million people are Catholic, according to Vatican statistics.
