Prelates' legacies tainted by scandals

John Allen of the National Catholic Reporter reflects on how a scandal can permanently mar the image of a once-influential prelate. In his “fraternity of the disgraced” he lists Cardinal Bernard Law, Archbishop Rembert Weakland, Cardinal Dario Castrillon Hoyos, and a likely new member, Cardinal Godfried Danneels.

    If these men were Cops, Firefighters or teachers they would be fired and lose their pensions instead of being "promoted" to Rome or retired with a pension from the Diocese in which they committed their sins and crimes!
