Catholic shot in front of church in Pakistan
September 09, 2010
A Catholic layman in Karachi, Pakistan’s largest city, was shot in front of his parish on September 6. It is unclear whether Asghar Bhatti, 61, was deliberately targeted or whether the three assailants wanted to steal his car.
“Militants want to spread fear and disrupt law and order in a city where targeted killings have become an almost daily routine,” said Father Saleh Diego, the parish priest. “Until recently, victims were political party workers, but now ordinary citizens are no longer safe.”
