New English translations will be previewed during visit to UK
August 20, 2010
A new English translation of the Roman Missal will be used for portions of the Mass when Pope Benedict XVI visits the United Kingdom in September.
Msgr. Guido Marini, the director of pontifical liturgies, disclosed that when the Holy Father celebrates Mass in England and Scotland, the sung prayers such as the Gloria will use the newly approved translation. The spoken parts of the Mass, such as the Eucharistic Prayer, will use the older translation, which was the only one approved for use in English-speaking countries at the time when the papal visit was planned.
