Papal delegate: General chapter will reconsider charism, constitution of Legionaries of Christ

July 15, 2010

Visiting the headquarters of the Legion of Christ, the newly appointed papal delegate who will supervise the reform of the order announced that an extraordinary general chapter will be held “to reconsider the charism of the institute, and more concretely, the constitutional norms that are its expression and guarantee.”

“The Pope, through me,” said Archbishop Velasio De Paolis, “now wants to accompany you on this path, so that without allowing yourselves to be discouraged by the tragic events behind you, you can find joy in your current [reality], in the gift of the religious, priestly and missionary vocation that you have received.”

“Your vocation, like your congregation, is in your hands, is entrusted to your responsibility,” the archbishop added. “The Church accompanies you; the Lord is merciful and generous: he gives his Spirit without measure. His grace goes before you, it accompanies you, and it brings you to the goal.”
