Anti-Christian violence flares up in southern India

June 25, 2010

Two major incidents of anti-Christian violence have been reported from around Bangalore, India in recent days.

On Wednesday, two young pastors of an evangelical church were beaten with iron rods as they approached a parishioner’s house for a prayer meeting. The previous night, seven vehicles belonging to an evangelical group called ‘Jesus With Us Ministries’ were set on fire. The violent incidents came after local Hindu fundamentalists had forced organizers to shift the venue of a convention sponsored by the Christian group; the convention had to take place under police protection. The vehicles that were torched had been used to shuttle participants to the new convention site.
