Alabama diocese places vicar general on leave after report of relationship

CWN Editor's Note: Father Robert Sullivan, a vicar general of the Birmingham diocese, has taken a leave of absence, following the publication of a report that he carried on a sexual relationship with a young woman beginning when she was 17.
The Guardian reported that the priest continued the relationship for several years, providing the young woman with money and eventually persuading her to sign a non-disclosure agreement.
The diocese has placed Father Sullivan on leave while the report is investigated.
