Slovenia: 20-year-old slain by Communists beatified

At the conclusion of Slovenia’s national Eucharistic congress, Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Tarciscio Bertone presided over the beatification of Lojze Grozde, a 20-year-old who was tortured and martyred by Communists in 1943. The young man, who had a talent for poetry, was deeply devoted to the Holy Eucharist.
79% of the nation’s 1.6 million people are Catholic.
