Milingo: God approved my decision to ordain married priests

June 01, 2010

Emmanuel Milingo, who was excommunicated in 2006 after illiclitly consecrating bishops and was reduced to the lay state in 2009, has told Kenya’s largest newspaper that God approved his decision to ordain married men to the priesthood. Milingo had served as archbishop of Lusaka (Zambia) before working for the Pontifical Council for the Pastoral Care of Migrants and Itinerant Peoples.

“They did not know I talk to God directly,” he said. “When I ordained my first married priests, I went on my knees and asked God to tell me whether ordaining married priests was wrong. He said ‘nonsense.’ I knew I had made the right decision.”

“For 43 years as a celibate priest, I only knew God as a male,” he added. “Now, through my union with my wife, I have come to see the other side of God’s heart, which is female.” Milingo married Maria Sung at a 2001 ceremony organized by Sun Myung Moon of the Unification Church.

In this guy's case, Moony takes on a whole new meaning. One is reminded of the old joke about the little boy who figured out that the word lunatic comes from two other words---luna, meaning moon, and attic, meaning the upper story. Hence, loony in the upper story.
