Cardinal Danneels denies cover-up of Bishop Vangheluwe’s abuse

Cardinal Godfried Danneels, who retired as Archbishop of Malines-Brussels earlier this year, has denied claims by two priests that they had spoken with him several times about Bishop Roger Vangheluwe’s homosexual abuse of a minor. “With the best will in the world I cannot remember such a discussion,” Cardinal Danneels said on April 24. “I'd be surprised that I wouldn't have paid attention, or forgotten about such a statement.”
