Brazil: Notorious priest arrested; legislative probe led by evangelical pastor
CWN - April 20, 2010
A Brazilian parliamentary investigation into clerical abuse in the scandal-plagued Diocese of Penedo has led to the arrest of 83-year-old Msgr. Luiz Marques Barbosa. The priest gained notoriety following the television broadcast of a video that allegedly portrayed a 2009 homosexual encounter between the priest and a 19-year-old. During the course of the investigation, allegations were made that Msgr. Barbosa and two other priests abused boys as young as 12.
The legislative probe is being led by Sen. Magno Malta, who is also an evangelical pastor.
