CWN Editor's Note: “There are no guarantees for real security and a stable future” for Christians in Iraq, says Chaldean Catholic Patriarch Louis Sako of Baghdad.

The Iraqi cardinal told AsiaNews that “Christians cannot live in a climate of persistent insecurity and precariousness.” Many Christians are leaving the country, he reported, while those who remain are often in danger of violence.

Cardinal Sako has harsh words for the “Babylon Brigades,” the political group that claims to defend the rights of Iraq’s Christian minority. Their militia, he said, “persecute Christians, instead of defending them.”
