Pope rallies Italian youth at 25th-anniversary celebration of World Youth Day

On Thursday evening, March 25, Pope Benedict XVI addressed a huge crowd of young people who had gathered in St. Peter's Square to celebrate t he 25th anniversary of the foundation of World Youth Day. The Pontiff praised the young Catholics for their "magnificent witness of faith" and answered questions from the audience, encouraging the young people to persevere in the faith and bring the Gospel to their contemporaries.
The crowd in St. Peter's Square for the evening event was estimated at 70,000. World Youth Day was established by Pope John Paul II in 1985.
