Canadian bishops call for fidelity to Humanae Vitae

Hailing the prophetic nature of Pope Paul VI’s 1968 encyclical Humanae Vitae, the Canadian bishops have called upon Catholics to read the encyclical and ‘integrate in their lives this important teaching.’ The bishops’ statement – an implicit retraction of the infamous Winnipeg Statement of 1968 – also praised the ‘astonishing depth and inestimable richness’ of Pope John Paul II’s theology of the body.
