75,000 refugees expected to flee Togo because of election violence
CWN - February 16, 2010
Philippe Yaovi Ahouanye, an official at Caritas Benin, is warning that as many as 75,000 refugees may flee the west African nation of Togo for Benin in the weeks ahead because of anticipated violence surrounding Togo’s March 4 election. In 1993, 300,000 Togolese fled their nation for Benin, and 3,500 remain there today.
30% of Togo’s 5.5 million people are Catholic.
