New questions on US bishops' conference ties to leftist group

CWN - February 09, 2010

Continuing a line of criticism of the US bishops' conference for its alliances with left-wing groups, Deal Hudson of Inside Catholic questions why the US Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) is affiliated with the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, a coalition that has lobbied for legal abortion and for same-sex marriage. The coalition-- of which USCCB is a member-- requires that affiliated organizations "must share LCCHR's principles and purposes."

Look, it's not a matter of Catholic groups identifying USCCB affiliations and saying "gotcha" and the USCCB saying in response "look at the big picture". It's that the USCCB apparently lacks the discernment of the average blogger in college for identifying an organization's political agenda, positions on abortion and marriage, etc. It totally undermines the confidence we need to have in the USCCB's fidelity to Catholic doctrine.
