British Christian group urges government to cancel Haiti's debt

Christian Aid has presented a petition to the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Alastair Darling, calling for prompt action to eliminate the foreign debt owed by Haiti. The Christian Aid petition, bearing 15,000 signatures, calls upon Darling to use his influence with other leaders of the G7 industrial nations to cancel the $890 million owed by Haiti, as a means of helping the devastated nation to escape its poverty.
