Pope speaks on economic crisis, Middle East peace, fight against leprosy

At the conclusion of his Angelus audience on January 31, Pope Benedict XVI said that the continuing worldwide economic crisis "calls for a great sense of responsibility to be shown by everyone: managers, workers and politicians." He also called attention to two different observances: the days of intercession for peace in the Holy Land and the World Day of Leprosy. Of the latter date, the Pope mentioned the recent canonization of St. Damian de Veuster, who "gave his life for our brothers and sisters who suffer leprosy."
