Pope's synagogue visit on schedule despite controversy

The leaders of Rome’s Jewish community have confirmed plans for a visit by Pope Benedict XVI to the city’s synagogue on January 17. The January 4 announcement from the synagogue eliminated concerns that plans for the papal visit could be derailed by protests within the Jewish community about the Vatican decree proclaiming Pope Pius XII as “venerable.”
