Boston archdiocese paying over $1 million yearly to maintain closed parishes

December 29, 2009

The Archdiocese of Boston has paid roughly $600,000 each year to maintain and insure buildings at 5 churches that have been officially closed, but remain occupied by protesting parishioners. Another 25 parishes that have been closed but not yet sold add $700,000 to annual archdiocesan expenses, notes reporter Monica Brady-Myerov. The parishes were closed in 2004 as a cost-cutting measure.
