Pope's environmental approach contrasts with Copenhagen mentality, journalist argues

December 18, 2009

A leading Vatican journalist, Sandro Magister of L’Espresso, sees a sharp distinction between the environmentalism of Pope Benedict XVI and the secular version being promoted by activists at the Copenhagen conference. The Pope’s “green” approach is based on respect for human dignity, Magister notes, while the liberal attitude “denies the value of human life.” He explains the Pope’s view thus:

The ecology of nature and the ecology of man share the same destiny. Care for creation must be one and the same with care for the "inviolability of human life in every one of its phases and every one of its conditions."
