Pope calls attention to young refugees

November 30, 2009

In his message for the 96th annual World Day of Migrants and Refugees, Pope Benedict XVI highlights the plight of displaced young people. "It is my heartfelt hope that proper attention will be given to underage migrants," the Pope writes, noting that the problems are particularly acute for "those deprived of the support of their family."

The World Day of Migrants and Refugees will be observed on January 17. The papal message was released on November 27, at a Vatican press conference chaired by Archbishop Antonio Maria Veglio, the president of the Pontifical Council for Migrants.
