New York Times op-ed offers critical review of Novus Ordo

To mark the 40th anniversary of the introduction of the Novus Ordo liturgy, the New York Times published an op-ed column by Kenneth J. Wolfe, a writer of traditionalist Catholic sympathies, who called attention to the radical break from tradition embodied in the new liturgy, and the suspect influence of Archbishop Annibale Bugnini on the post-conciliar changes.

    Pope Benedict is a LONG way from being a traditionalist. Nevertheless, he has said some negative things about the suddenness of the change in the mass, and in some cases the nature of the change, which are as strong as any traditionalist has ever written. Slowly, we are returning to sanity.
