US ambassador to Vatican: Obama saved the nation from depression Facebook Twitter November 05, 2009

A year after the election of President Barack Obama, the new US ambassador to the Vatican has lauded the president as a bridge-builder who has inspired Americans to hope and called upon citizens to a new era of common responsibility. Dr. Miguel Díaz told Vatican Radio that the president’s principal domestic accomplishments included saving the nation from economic depression, saving companies from bankruptcy, and promoting health care reform. At the international level, the president’s chief accomplishments, according to Dr. Díaz, include his promotion of disarmament, the environmental stewardship of the planet, and interfaith dialogue for the sake of interfaith service.

Dr. Díaz added that the president was “honored” and “touched” by his July audience with Pope Benedict and that he listened attentively to what the Pontiff had to say, since listening to others and learning from them-- according to Ambassador Díaz-- is a prominent characteristic of the president and his administration.
