US ambassador to Vatican: Obama saved the nation from depression November 05, 2009
A year after the election of President Barack Obama, the new US ambassador to the Vatican has lauded the president as a bridge-builder who has inspired Americans to hope and called upon citizens to a new era of common responsibility. Dr. Miguel Díaz told Vatican Radio that the president’s principal domestic accomplishments included saving the nation from economic depression, saving companies from bankruptcy, and promoting health care reform. At the international level, the president’s chief accomplishments, according to Dr. Díaz, include his promotion of disarmament, the environmental stewardship of the planet, and interfaith dialogue for the sake of interfaith service.
Dr. Díaz added that the president was “honored” and “touched” by his July audience with Pope Benedict and that he listened attentively to what the Pontiff had to say, since listening to others and learning from them-- according to Ambassador Díaz-- is a prominent characteristic of the president and his administration.

This is what happens when you only have the NY Times to read when you're overseas...

What else can one expect from a man who would compromise Catholic morals and ethics to work with and for the likes of Obama? I doubt that Obama would ever pick an ambassador who would represent faithful US Catholics, as that person would have to be diametrically opposed to virtually everything for which Obama stands and works. We must pray that the Vatican will see Obama clearly--not thru' Diaz's rose-colored glasses.

I agree with all the comments posted. Dr.Diaz has not presented a truthful representation of the accomplishments of President Obama. I pray the Vatican will suggest that Dr.Diaz leave as quickly as possible.

It's nice to know that Dr. Diaz has become and expert in economics, finance, international relations, public health, environmental sciences, and military affairs since he was named ambassador to the Vatican. Who knew a Presidential appointment carried such miraculous properties.

If Mary Ann Glendon had said this about Bush we would have been treated to howls of protest and claims that the theocratic apocalypse was upon us. The secular messianism displayed by the Obamabots is shocking and the willingness of folks to lap it up is disturbing.

If Barack Obama has saved the country from depression, why do I get more depressed each time I hear about his latest move? Please let the Holy Father and the members of the curia see that Diaz's rosy view of the Obama regime is just lying propaganda, and not take it at face value.

Ambassador Diaz should perhaps stick to subjects he understands. Economics not included.

Someone needs to forward to the good doctor the definition of listening. Obama heard the pope but he did not listen.

Talk about progranda on a large scale. So far Obama has done nothing but start the process of turning the U.S. into a socialist nation. This is one large pile of manure.

He's also eradicated poverty, made everything 100% recyclable, unified the American people (we all vote for the same candidates now!), taught everyone the true meaning of life, given us inner light, achieved world peace, and eliminated death! It's almost like he's the messiah! Who's going to build the first temple to him? . . . What a bunch of hogwash! The Vatican should send this Díaz guy packing and request an ambassador who has some grounding in reality.
