Anglican reactions, II: celibacy still an issue

Although the Pope's forthcoming apostolic constitution will allow married Anglican priests to enter the ranks of the Catholic clergy, some Anglicans are worried that in the future, married men might not be admitted to ordination, and the Anglican tradition of a married priesthood may be lost.

    Let us pray that Anglicans will soften their hearts to feel with the Church on this "brilliant jewel" of the celibate priesthood!

    You know, I think that John Allen of NCR is right: The Holy Father has deliberately had the press conference BEFORE the issuing the definitive Constitution. Seems backwards, but this way all kinds of perhaps unconsidered questions are raised which may be answered in the final draft of the Constitution. Clearly, clerical celibacy is high on the list. Some clever Latin Catholics may well change over to Anglo-Catholic in order to become married priests. Nice try guys. Precautions can be taken.
