Obama, McCain make case for Catholic vote; bishops seek meetings
September 18, 2008
In interviews with US Catholic magazine, the leading presidential candidates discuss abortion, stem-cell research, immigration, war, and other issues. With particular savvy, Senator Obama invokes Pope Benedict, Pope John Paul, and Cardinal Bernardin in some of his responses.

The New York archdiocese has announced that both McCain and Obama will be invited to attend the annual Al Smith dinner to "share nonpartisan good humor."
