8 years after Liturgiam Authenticam, more accurate liturgical translations in sight

Over eight years after the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments called for more accurate liturgical translations in its instruction Liturgiam Authenticam, the process of translating the Roman Missal into English is drawing to a close. The bishops of the United States will vote at their November meeting on five items that will conclude their “work on the Roman Missal. We now wait for final approval from the Holy See before the new English text can begin to be used in parishes across the United States,” said Monsignor Anthony Sherman, executive director of the US bishops’ Office of Divine Worship.
The items under discussion, according to a USCCB press release, include translations of the “Proper of Saints, the Commons and the Roman Missal Supplement as well as the US Propers and the US adaptations to the Roman Missal.”

Impossible to read aloud... The "new" translation of the SS readings at the Eucharist are sometimes impossible to read aloud, let alone make sense out of them when read quietly... Take this past week's torturous first readings from the epistle to the Romans... long sentences with interminable phrases make it almost impossible to remember the subject of the sentence. This is the way Latin is structured - I have studied Latin and can translate it... this is impossible to read aloud.

But when, oh when, will see the "Revised Amended Revised New American Bible" replaced with something more accurate in the daily readings?

That's OK. The foot-dragging is beginning already. My pastor went to an archdiocesan meeting on the changes two or three weeks ago and the next week wrote a column in the parish bulletin criticizing them and concluding, "Hopefully the Bishops will make some exceptions in their desire for translations of formal equivalence."
