Boston cardinal condemns MTV, abortion of Down syndrome babies

Cardinal Sean O’Malley of Boston has urged Catholics to “protect our children from the poisonous message of hedonism, individualism and materialism on MTV and so many other places.” Paying tribute to the late Eunice Kennedy Shriver, founder of the Special Olympics, the cardinal also rued the abortion of babies with birth defects. “Ninety percent of children with Down Syndrome are now being aborted,” he said during a homily at a parish’s 150th anniversary.
