Pope tells new bishops: prayer must be top priority

In an address to newly consecrated bishops, Pope Benedict XVI said that good bishops invariably find that a persevering commitment to prayer is "the secret of the fruitfulness of their ministry." "The time that priests and bishops consecrate to God in prayer is always time well spent," the Holy Father said, addressing a group of new bishops who visited his summer residence at Castel Gandolfo on September 21. The mundane requirements of a bishop's office "must never distract us from intimate and personal union with Christ."
