Pope notes spiritual dimension of concern for environment
September 10, 2009
Pope Benedict XVI reiterated his concern for the environment-- a concern that he has expressed consistently throughout his pontificate-- during a September 20 meeting with sponsors of a Vatican exhibit at the Expo Zaragoza 2008. That Vatican exhibit, dedicated to the theme of "water and sustainable development," had given viewers "an opportunity to reflect upon the significance and primordial importance water has for human life," the Pope remarked. He added that the Vatican participated in the Expo "to demonstrate not only the urgent need constantly to defend the environment and the natural world, but also to discover its more profound spiritual and religious dimension."
