30 gunmen kill priest in Philippines

September 07, 2009

Thirty gunmen attacked a van carrying Father Cecilio Lucero, killing him and injuring his police escort and another companion. The priest was known for his defense of human rights and advocacy for the poor.

The attack took place in Northern Samar, a province on the island of Samar in the nation’s Eastern Visayas region.
