Uruguay: archbishop says children suffer with same-sex adoption
August 18, 2009
“To accept the adoption of children by homosexual couples is to go against human nature itself, and consequently, it is to go against the fundamental rights of the human being as a person," said Archbishop Nicolas Cotugno of Montevideo in response to new legislation allowing adoption by same-sex couples. Citing a 2003 document from the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, the archbishop said that the policy serves the interests of the homosexual couples, to the detriment of the children. Adopted children, he said, "cannot be used as instruments by certain groups or persons for demanding rights."
